Marble Mountains Da Nang: Nature’s Sanctuary

Just eight kilometres south of Da Nang, five limestone and marble peaks rise unexpectedly from the coastal plain, known locally as Ngu Hanh Son, sacred to Buddhist pilgrims for centuries.

Inside the Marble Mountains, Da Nang

Climb Thuy Son, the largest of the five, and duck into Huyen Khong Cave, an open-roof cavern glowing gold and green in the light, said to have sheltered a hidden field hospital during the Vietnam War.

Nearby, Am Phu Cave recreates a walk through heaven and hell, twelve chambers each guarded by a different judge.

At the summit, views stretch across My Khe Beach and the city skyline. At the foot of the Marble Mountains, Non Nuoc village keeps the marble carving tradition alive, chisels still echoing through workshops on the street.

Best for: culture lovers, photographers, and anyone drawn to caves and Buddhist heritage.

Best time: early morning, when the caves are most atmospheric.

Duration: approximately half a day.

Good to know: wear comfortable shoes, though an elevator runs up to Thuy Son if you’d rather skip the stairs.
